Serving Northern Alberta
Slave Lake Airport supports emergency and medevac operations, wildfire response, forestry, industry, private aviation and general aviation. The airport provides essential regional infrastructure while welcoming charter and itinerant aircraft.
Regional value and partnerships
The airport connects municipal partners, provincial and federal agencies, emergency-service providers and private operators. These partnerships help the region respond to wildfire and medical emergencies while supporting forestry, energy, tourism and local business activity.
Our history
The airport’s story reaches back to the mid-1960s. The original terminal was constructed in 1976. Provincial ownership transferred to the Town of Slave Lake in 1995, and the Airport Services Commission began operating the airport on January 1, 1999. A 550-foot runway extension and partial parallel taxiway followed in 2000. The current Air Terminal Building opened in 2010. Today, CYZH remains a certified regional airport serving the communities and industries of the Lesser Slave Lake region. Read the full airport history →
